British boy band One Direction has once again made history as their second album ‘Take Me Home’ has soared No 1 position on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart. With over 540,000 copies sold this week, One Direction has become the first British band to have their debut and second album debut at No 1 in the US. Earlier, the band made history when their debut album, Up All Night, entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart at No1, the first for a British band. The UK boys held off competition from Christina Aguilera whose album ‘Lotus’ debuted at No 7, Soundgarden and Lana Del Rey. ‘Take Me Home’ entered the charts at No 1 in over 32 countries. According to a company statement, the album has also shattered the US iTunes pre-order record with over 130,000 albums sold in advance of its release. According to figures from Nielsen SoundScan, the album notched up the third biggest opening week sales of the year after Mumford & Sons ‘ Babel’ (6,00,000 copies at opening week) and Taylor Swift’s ‘Red’ (1.2 million copies sold so far). In Spring 2013, the band will begin their World Tour in the UK, which includes nine shows at London’s O2 Arena. The band will document this journey and give fans a behind the scenes look into their lives with the release of their 3D concert film on 30 August 2013.
