It was One Direction mania earlier today (November 13) as the fivesome celebrated the release of their sophomore album Take Me Home with an unforgettable performance on the “Today” show.
One Direction drew a record-breaking crowd to Rockefeller Plaza in New York City, some who were camped out since Thursday, just hoping to get a glimpse of Harry, Liam, Niall, Zayn and Louis. The 15,000 in attendance was bigger than any crowd in the show’s history, according to co-host Al Roker. The boys kicked off the concert with a performance of “What Makes You Beautiful” and followed that up by talking with co-hosts Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, for whom they had a special announcement.
“We are going to do our first-ever movie and it’s going to be in 3-D and it’s coming to cinemas near you on the 30th of August, 2013,” Niall Horan told the screaming crowd.
Before going into a performance of “Live While We’re Young” and fan favorite “Little Things,” the group thanked the crowd for showing their support despite the hardships the New York area has recently faced in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
“I think for us it’s unbelievable to see the fans support,” Harry Styles said. “I think in spite of everything that happened, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that’s been affected by Hurricane Sandy and to see everyone come out still when everything’s happened is absolutely amazing. It means so much to us.”
Even though Styles admitted that he was “very nervous” with the release of Take Me Home, the guys are thrilled fans can finally get their hands on the album.
“We were a little nervous when we first put the album for the fans,” Zayn Malik said of the album release. “But we we’ve been waiting so long, we are just excited and we are happy the fans can get a physical copy now.”
I’ve added 360 HQ photos of the boys from the performance! Enjoy the photos in the gallery by clicking the thumbnails below! :’D And, I’ll be posting the videos in the next post (:
