One Direction’s fourth album, ‘Four,’ hits stores in November; hear new song, ‘Fireproof’

Almost exactly a year after releasing its third album, “Midnight Memories,” enduring boy band One Direction returns Nov. 17 with its fourth album, the cleverly titled “Four” (Are they in cahoots with Maroon 5, who just released “V,” their fifth album? Also, not to be confused with Huey Lewis & The News’ “Fore” album)

The British quintet announced the album via YouTube, as well as informed fans about the availability of 24-hour free download of “Fireproof.” Two of the band’s members, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne, co-wrote the new tune with John Ryan, Jamie Scott and Julian Bunetta.

“Fireproof” is a mid-tempo, sweet, wistful tune, which features, per usual, the members trading lines about a love that goes on despite the odds. A drum loop propels it forward, as a nice electric guitar line gives it some heft. It doesn’t have an undeniably catchy chorus or build like “Story of My Life,” but it’s a nice sign as to where the boys are musically now and it sneakily grows on you with repeated listenings.

Boy bands have a built-in shelf life and One Direction continues to make the absolute most of its time in the sun. The band recently finished a wildly successful worldwide stadium tour and its three previous albums have sold more than 46 million copies. “Midnight Memories” was world’s best-selling album in 2013.

There are still plenty of albums to be announced for the fourth quarter— including (though unlikely) potential Adele and U2 releases—but it’s starting to shape up with Taylor Swift on Oct. 27; Foo Fighters, Nov. 11; One Direction Nov. 17, and Garth Brooks the week after. It’s not going to be enough to safe the continuing downward sales spiral (as Katie Hasty wrote about here), but we’re probably looking at four weeks where the No. 1 album sells at least 500,000 copies in its opening frame).

“Fireproof” is below the album announcement.

One Direction’s Midnight Memories track Diana leaks online

A One Direction song called Diana, said to be from the band’s third album Midnight Memories, has been leaked.

It seems Directioners just can’t wait until something is officially released before unveiling it to the world ahead of time.

Diana has found its way online and fans are already in love with it.

The track is said to be dedicated to the group’s fans all over the world as a way of letting them know that they appreciate them.

Despite the mushy subject matter, it is an upbeat, positive pop song with a summery feel, and is a bit different to the generic style of music they have been putting out up to this point.

The lyrics include: ‘Diana/Let me the one to/Light a fire inside your life/You can own me/You don’t even know me/But I can feel you crying’.

Diana will be welcome news to the fivesome’s global fanbase who have so far failed to attract the lads’ attention.

Midnight Memories, the follow up to last year’s Take Me Home, is released on November 9 and is available to pre-order now.

One Direction to Release Third Album in November

“Midnight Memories” will feature the VMA-winning track “Best Song Ever” and will be available for pre-order beginning Sept. 9.
One Direction is continuing its momentum one week after the release of its Sony concert pic, This Is Us. The U.K.-based boy band on Friday announced the global release of its third studio album, Midnight Memories, for Nov. 25.
The album, available for pre-order on Sept. 9, will feature the hit MTV Video Music Award-winning song “Best Song Ever.” A full tracklist for the Syco/Columbia Records release was not revealed.
The album follows 2012′s Take Me Home and 2011′s Up All Night, both of which hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In making their announcement on Friday, One Direction used Instagram to post a video alongside the hashtag #1DAlbumTitle.
This Is Us was initially projected to win Labor Day weekend at the North American box office but ultimately came in No. 2 as Lee Daniels’ The Butler topped for the third week in a row. One Direction’s first big-screen offering, directed by Morgan Spurlock, boasts an A CinemaScore and brought in $18 million over the three-day weekend in the U.S. Overseas, the film opened to $14.5 million.
One Direction is composed of Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson. The group was formed in 2010 by Simon Cowell on The X Factor U.K. and while it didn’t win the competition, it has become the franchise’s greatest success story to date.
