The boyband have been increasingly compared to the Fab Four after causing hysteria wherever they appear across North America and Europe.

However, McCartney has insisted that One Direction shouldn’t be likened to his former band as it will create too much pressure to maintain a high level of popularity across the globe.

He told ITV1′s Daybreak: “There are so many bands who all get called ‘the next Beatles’. Suddenly it puts an awful lot of pressure on them to be the next Beatles.

“Oasis were ‘the next Beatles’ once if you remember. It’s a pressure, because suddenly you’ve got to live up to all the things that we did, and it was a different time. So let’s just call them ‘the next terrific band’.”

McCartney went on to wish One Direction well, adding: “They’re doing well in America. It’s good – good luck, lads.”

To be honest, I agree with him. They don’t need to be like The Beatles. They should make a different mark for themselves. What do you guys think? (:
